Öhringen and the surrounding area

With a population of almost 23,000 Öhringen is the largest town in the Hohenlohe district, the land of romantic castles and palaces.
Öhringen's well-documented history dates back to at least Roman times. Even back then the Romans used the superb location and favourable topography of the terrain to develop a not insignificant border post on the Upper German-Raetian Limes.
Two forts in the town today and one in the Zweiflingen municipality north of it are impressive testaments to Öhringen's historical development. Even though its military importance gradually declined, the town on the Ohrn river had outstanding political, social and economic significance for its surrounding area and the entire Hohenlohe region throughout all the eras.
Simply visit us in person and get to know Öhringen during a guided tour of the town or under your own steam with a stroll around the town.
You will be amazed at what surprises are in store for you in the "Hohenlohe metropolis" and how short the distances are between the historical eras.

Transport links:

Öhringen is situated in a location with good transport links near the A81 / A6 motorway junction.
The A81 motorway links the metropolitan area of Würzburg/Stuttgart in a north/south direction, among others. Exit 8 for "Neuenstadt" is just a few kilometres away from Öhringen.

In an east/west direction the A6 motorway stretches from Nuremberg via Mannheim to Saarbrücken. With exit 40 Öhringen is connected directly to this important east/west connection.
